What does the “The words WALLACE STERLING in block letters, often with the pattern name and, on later pieces, a copyright symbol” mark mean?
Most twentieth century Wallace flatware, including Grande Baroque, Rose Point and Sir Christopher, is stamped Wallace Sterling on the back of the handle. Many pieces add the pattern name. Some reissued patterns also show a copyright symbol beside the name, for example the 1975 reissue of Irving as Old Atlanta. Wallace was sold to Hamilton Watch in 1959, Katy Industries in 1983, Syratech in 1986 and Lifetime Brands in 2006, and the name mark continued through those owners. Wallace also made silverplate, so check for the word Sterling.
